In an interview with Al Jazeera TV, Dr. Salim al-Jabouri, Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament Human Rights Commission, protested UNAMI chief Martin Kobler’s measures in Iraq.
“It has been a long time since Martin Kobler has been in Iraq. We are providing reports to the UN referring to human rights violations. Two weeks ago, we presented an official document indicating the death of 34 prisoners in 4 months in prisons belonging to the Justice Ministry alone. This causes us to become suspicious that even the UN is collaborating with the policies pursued inside Iraq. What is taking place these days in Iraq consists of human rights violations such as the murder of an innocent individual who was arrested,” he said.
“A week ago in Diyala Province we had another murder case of detainees under interrogation. There are many such cases, of which some are announced, while others are unclear even for us in the Iraqi Parliament Human Rights Commission and various human rights organizations active in this country. They use government assets to suppress people to crackdown any voice of dissent and to prevent anyone from taking part in demonstrations,” Dr. al-Jabouri added.
