The Iraqi people in various province staged major rallies outside offices of the High Judiciary Council demanding judiciary branch chief Mid’hat Mahmoud to be sacked and major reforms across the Iraqi judiciary, al-Baghdadiya TV reported on Monday, August 31st.
In Baghdad a wave of protesters heading towards this office demanded Mahmoud’s sacking, an independent judiciary, all corrupt individuals to be expelled out of this branch and the system of informants to be completely uprooted.
Al Sharqiya TV cited various demonstrators saying Mid’hat Mahmoud is a main element of the corruption in Iraq, especially political corruption plaguing this country. The protesters were also demanding the release of innocent Iraqis held in prison across the country.
Protesters called on Iraqi Prime Minister Dr. Haider al-Abadi to take practical action against reforms… or else the people’s anger will not come to an end…
Dijla TV reported demonstrators emphasizing if Mid’hat Mahmoud remains in this post it will mean all corruption will remain intact in Iraq. They called for the informants system and secret prisons to be brought to an end. Protesters also demanded the fate of those arrested to be revealed.
