Iraq: major demonstrations calling for prosecution of Nouri Maliki

Demonstrations in the central and southern provinces against Nouri Maliki and calling for his prosecution continued on Thursday, August 20th, al-Baghdadiya TV reported.
In Babel and Waset provinces the protesters demanded Maliki’s prosecution. In the demonstration held by single day workers in Babel a protester described Maliki as a disaster for Iraq.
Another protester in this rally said Maliki wasted $190 billion dollars in agriculture alone.
Al Jazeera TV reported in Najaf and Diyala provinces demonstrators called on Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to have his reforms include the agricultural branch that suffered for years under Maliki’s government.
Following the approval of Maliki being the first suspect in the Mosul collapse file in the Iraqi Parliament, Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi said a number of Maliki’s senior commanders have been referred to military courts.
Iraqi MP Beiruwan Kheilani from the Kurdistan Democratic Party rejected Maliki’s remarks in holding the Kurds responsible for the fall of Mosul and called for Maliki’s prosecution.
The European Union also threw its weight behind Prime Minister al-Abadi’s reform measures, Iraq’s NINA news agency reported.
