
Iraqis staged massive rallies in cities across the country, including Karbala and Qadesiya in the south, al-Iraqiya TV reported on Friday, August 14th. A large number of protesters were seen wearing white T-shirts as signs of peaceful demonstrations.
Demonstrators were chanting slogans supporting reform measures presented by Iraqi Prime Minister Dr. Haider al-Abadi, Al-Iraqiya TV reported.
Hundreds of journalists and media employees also took part in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square, al-Rashid TV reported.
Iraq’s main news agency, NINA, wired the following: In the town of Khalis north of Baquba [in Diyala Province] people took to the streets in their demonstrations demanding reforms and a serious fight against financial and administrative corruption.
“People from all walks of life in Khalis are demanding administrative and political reforms, and having corrupt figures brought to justice,” said a protester as demonstrators approved and backed the reform plan putforward by al-Abadi and the Parliament.
