According to a report aired by Iraq’s al-Gharbiya TV, Hossein Zeidi, former head of the Diyala Provincial Council Security Commission, endured six years in prison and was released with a ruling saying he was actually innocent.
“Many national figures in Iraq are held in behind bars due to void and fabricated allegations, and many of Iraq’s prisons are full of innocent people,” he said in an interview with al-Gharbiya TV.
“During the course of these six years I had faced various types of aggressions, along with physical and psychological insults and harassments… To my utmost surprise what I witnessed was that the issue of human rights literally has no existence in Iraq,” he added.
