Iraq: complementary reports on massive Friday rallies

Arab TV networks reported major rallies in Baghdad and other cities across Iraq on Friday, August 21st all heard slogans focusing on former Iraqi prime minister and dismissed vice president Nouri Maliki and judiciary chief Mid’hat Mahmoud, while others were calling on Iraqi prime Minister Dr. Hiader al-Abadi to show more firmness.
Al Arabiya reported Friday’s rallies in Iraq were against Maliki as the first person in charge of corruption and destruction in Iraq.
The cities of Baquba, Khalis, Mandali and Khaneqein in Diyala Province also witnessed demonstrations.
In a rally in Diwaniya in the south protesters were chanting slogans against an Iranian regime agent by the name of Bayan Jabar.
Iran-associated militant groups such as Asaeb al-Haq were at times seen taking part in Baghdad demonstrations with uniforms. Three TV channels linked to Maliki also aired live footages of this week’s demonstrations.
Al Baghdadiya TV reported the demonstration in Najaf angry protesters were calling for Maliki’s prosecution. Protesters in Baghdad held Maliki responsible for all the destruction and corruption in Iraq.
