Iraq: another 10 executions

Despite all international calls, the Maliki government executed 10 individuals Sunday, raising the number of executions in 2012 to 129. Iraq’s Judiciary Spokesperson announced that, today, 10 individuals were executed on charges of terrorism, one of whom was an Egyptian national. Following the wave of executions in Iraq, the UN Human Rights Council Commissioner, Amnesty International, the European Union and many other international bodies, while criticizing the inadequacy of fair trials in Iraq, called for a moratorium on executions in this country.
