Iraqi MP Salim Al Jabouri, Chairman of the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission said this country has around 50,000 prisoners.
“Based on official figures published by the Ministry of Justice, the number of prisoners total 35,000. However, evaluations conducted by the Parliament Human Rights Commission shows the number is far higher because there are a large number of secret prisons affiliated to various security centers,” he said.
“Counting the number of prisoners in these facilities brings the total number of Iraqi prisoners to 50,000, while 1,500 of them are women,” Al Jabouri added.
