Iran strongly pressures Iraqi government to open Iraq-Syria int’l highway

Al-Taghyeer TV, 31 Dec 2012 – Sources informed al-Taghyeer TV Iran is placing heavy pressure on the Iraqi government to open the international highway linking Iraq and Syria, a path blocked by Iraqi demonstrators since last week in protest to the policies of Nouri Maliki’s government.
This source added the Iranian regime’s measure followed calls made by Bashar Assad to Tehran regarding the increase in Syrian opposition forces’ attacks and these battles reaching the heart of the country, being Damascus.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi government faces accusations based on allowing the country’s land and air routes be used to send weapons and fighters from Iran to Syria.
