Following US pressures, for the second time an Iranian plane carrying weapons for the Syrian dictator was grounded in Iraq and inspected.
Based on a report wired by the Kuwaiti KUNA news agency, an Iranian cargo plane heading for Damascus was forced to land while passing through Iraqi airspace.
“The Iranian cargo plane was inspected by experts in the Baghdad International Airport,” said Iraqi Aviation Organization chief Nosser Al Bandar.
“This measure by Iraq took place under US pressure. The US is accusing Iran of using airplanes and Iraqi airspace to send weapons to Syria to support this country’s government,” an Iranian state-run media outlet complained.
Iran’s envoy in Baghdad Danai’i Far had said prior to this if the incident of a forced grounding and mandatory inspection of Iran’s airplanes reoccurs, the mullahs will resort to retaliatory measures against Baghdad.
