The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Zalmay Khalilzad expressed his concern over Iranian regime’s role in Lebanon and said what Iran is doing in Lebanon is not only helpful, rather it is the cause of disruption in the political process and restraint in the way of selecting new President for Lebanon.
His opinion was asked about Iran’s efforts to put off the election of a new president in Lebanon till 2009 when a new president would be elected in the US.
Khalilzad said that the problem is clear for the US. There is a candidate for the Lebanon Presidency; but every time some groups backed by Iran and Syria put forward new conditions to disrupt the election. They are using this method as pressure lever to be used in other scenes.
