In an interview with the Saudi al-Watan daily, Syrian Revolution Guardian Council chair Haitham al-Maleh said it is the Iranian envoy in Damascus that is ruling the country and making the decisions, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is nothing but the executor of Iran’s policies, Al Jazeera TV reported.
Al-Maleh cited a senior Syrian official close to Assad in making these accusations, adding senior Iranian officials are running the country, referring to the Iranian regime’s influence in Syria before the revolution.
Al-Maleh stressed on the presence of Lebanese Hezbollah-affiliated fighters in Syria and said he has information and has personally seen thousands of Iranians in Syrian airports, and this is why this issue has gotten an ugly sectarian perspective to it.
