The Iraqi protesters who set himself ablaze on Sunday is named Talal Ali Abbas, and he says if he dies, many will follow his path, Al Sharqiya TV reported.
Those at the scene rushed to his side turning off the fire and rushing Talal to the nearest medical center.
“I did this for the prisoners. It has been more than ten days since we have been on strike here but they have done nothing. I thought if I die, me and many others, if Talal dies, there will be one million Talals that will follow… We were silent about the men, but we will never remain silent about the freedom loving women,” he said.
“This government does not represent us. Whoever comes to this square has been under cruelty. I call on all noble people to stand strong in ‘Dignity’ Square. We are not sectarian and Mosul’s Ahrar Square belongs to all Iraqis,” he added.
