House to vote on Iran nuke bill Thursday

The Hill – May 14, 2015 – The House will vote Thursday on legislation allowing Congress to review any deal with Iran on its nuclear program.
Thursday’s vote will come a week after the Senate passed the measure by a vote of 98-1. The White House has signaled it would sign the legislation in its current form.
House GOP leaders are moving the bill to the floor under a fast-track procedure that prohibits amendments and requires a two-thirds majority for passage.
The decision not to allow amendments came despite urging from the conservative House Freedom Caucus to vote on proposals such as requiring Iran to recognize Israel’s right to exist. Such an amendment would have been difficult for lawmakers to oppose, but could also disrupt the ongoing international negotiations with Iran.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) made a similar decision last week when Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) tried to force a vote on an amendment requiring Iran to recognize Israel. The Senate instead passed the legislation, which had been carefully negotiated between both parties, without amendments.
The House will also vote Thursday on legislation to impose sanctions on Hezbollah.
