In an interview with BBC World TV, Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal once again emphasized on serious divides and rifts with Iran over the crimes committed by the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
“There is no doubt we have differences over the conduct of the Syrian regime and how to approach this crisis. The military operations and massacre taking place in Syria is a source of pain. We were forced to leave Damascus despite the regime’s support. We had differences with Iran over the events in Syria, and this has had its effect on our relations. It is possible that as a result of the Arab Spring we might have lost some support, but we have also gained new allies,” Mashaal added.
