Sheikh Ahmed al-Safi, representative of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani said in Friday mass prayers in Karbala that corruption and other problems that Iraq and its nation are facing is the result of corruption in the government during the past few years. The people’s suffering will not end without real and comprehensive reforms in all areas, al-Iraqiya TV reported on Friday citing the Grand Ayatollah’s representative.
“Fundamental reforms include prosecuting and holding corrupt senior figures accountable and returning the people’s stolen property…reforms must take place with real steps and these steps must convince the people, assuring them officials are very serious in reforms and that they have risen to the occasion for necessary action,” he added.
