Gaza: more than 1,000 killed

The number of Palestinians killed in Gaza has surpassed the 1,000 mark. More than 6,000 Palestinians have been injured. Buildings in Gaza were being bombed moments before the 12 hour ceasefire. Furthermore, a short while before the ceasefire 18 members of a family were killed in an attack by Israeli tanks. After the ceasefire was in place diplomatic efforts focused on extending it.
US Secretary of State John Kerry said right now efforts are focused on having a 7-day ceasefire marking Eid al-Adha at the end of Ramadan… in order to have people gather and work on a more permanent ceasefire.
