French media feature reports about the June 26 Iranian resistance gathering in Taverny

NCRI, 25 June 2010- News about the large gathering of Iranians scheduled for Saturday at the northern Paris suburb of Taverny has made headlines in French media.

The provincial TV station in Val d’Oise ran a report today about the gathering, saying, “3,500 European and American parliamentarians have signed statements in support of the Iranian Resistance’s option for Iran.”
“Some of the parliamentarians are scheduled to appear in a large gathering of Iranians on June 26 in Taverny to unveil their resolutions in support of the Iranian uprising and in solidarity with Camp Ashraf, Iraq, where more than 3,000 Iranian resistance activists reside.”
“Parliamentary delegations and prominent personalities will come from 5 continents of the world. The gathering marks the anniversary of the beginning of the nationwide uprising of the people of Iran. Foreign delegations will voice support for the “third option” proposed by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi [the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran], which calls for democratic change by the Iranian people and their organized resistance movement.”
The TV station added, “The rally will coincide with the G20 summit in Canada.”
“In addition to the Iranian Resistance’s solution,” Val d’Oise TV said, “the speakers will express their views about the Iranian crisis, reminding the international community that a firm approach is required to deal with the Iranian regime.”
“The parliamentarians will also unveil statements of support for the Iranian Resistance signed by 3,500 of their colleagues in Europe and North America. Arab members of parliament have also taken a similar initiative in support of Ashraf and the Iranian Resistance.”
The weekly Eco journal wrote on Friday that Jean Bouin stadium in Taverny will host a huge gathering on June 26 by the Iranian opposition against the regime. Maurice Boscavert (Socialist mayor of Taverny) has invited people to express “solidarity with the Iranian people in their struggle for human rights, democracy and separation of church and state.”
The weekly quoted Boscavert as saying, “After Villepinte, Cergy, Auvers-sur-Oise, and Vauréal, now Tavery, the City of Peace, will host this gathering.”
The mayor condemned the “fascist mullahs’ regime that continues to torture and execute” dissidents.
Organizers seek to commemorate the first anniversary of the Iranian uprising, the weekly added, as well as the June 20, 1981 protest, “when half a million people in Tehran poured into the streets to protest the suppressive religious regime.”
“But the regime violently suppressed those protests, and launched an extensive wave of executions of political prisoners in Iran which resulted in 120,000 deaths among opposition supporters.”
The French daily Parisien also published a report about Saturday’s gathering, saying, “It will be an unprecedented occasion. Tomorrow afternoon’s gathering will be held at Jean Bouin stadium in Taverny and promises to be extraordinary.”
“Iranians from across France, Europe and other parts of the world (like Canada, the US and other places) will convene at the invitation of the Iranian opposition.”
The daily went on to say, “There have been significant logistical preparations. Suffice it to say that the stadium at Taverny has been made into an area worthy of the largest artistic or sports events.”
“Maurice Boscavert, Taverny’s mayor, is one of those who led a campaign which resulted in more than 2,000 mayors supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in a signed statement.”
Parisien quoted the mayor as saying, “Taverny has traditionally been committed to human rights. Welcoming this gathering here is an example of our support for the Iranian people who are subjected to suppression by the mullahs’ regime.”
As the event date approaches, Iranians from various parts of the world are arriving in France to contribute to the final preparations.
