As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, France has presented a draft resolution describing Assad as a war criminal and calling for his prosecution in The Hague. This draft resolution has called for Assad’s crimes to be referred to the International Criminal Court.
This request was in response to the call made by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay. A Security Council session is to be held at France’s request to review this draft resolution.
Valerie Amos, UN Undersecretary Secretary-General in Humanitarian Affairs, said the Assad regime has committed the most crimes. In her opinion Amos violated humanitarian laws by using barrel bombs against civilians.
