Former Iraqi Intelligence Chief: I provided Maliki with full information about Baghdad explosions, but no measure was taken

Asharqiya TV, Iraq, March 2, 2010 – Muhammad Shahwani, former head of Iraqi Intelligence Service, reiterated that he personally had given Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki complete intelligence and documents regarding bloody explosions in Baghdad five days before the explosions occurred.
In a special interview with Asharqiya by Illy Nakouzi, he emphasized that the intelligence he had provided was about the involvement of some individuals in the Baghdad bloody explosions in collaboration with Iran’s Quds force, but the Government of Iraq took no measures to prevent the explosions.

Muhammad Shahwani, former head of Iraqi Intelligence Service: Let me tell you about the bloody explosions in Bagdad,
Host: During which 400 Iraqis were killed.
Shahwani:  At that time, I was the head of Iraq’s Intelligence Service. We obtained some information that there would be big explosions in four or five days in those areas. We conveyed the information to the Government. Nevertheless, the Government took no measures and the explosions took place.
Host: Did you present your report to the Government of Iraq?
Shahwani: Yes.
Host: And did you mention that the explosions would occur in those areas?
Shahwani: Yes. We presented complete intelligence and analysis; I mean the intelligence was along with intelligence analytical report.
Host: Did you have reliable intelligence?
Shahwani: yes.
Host: You mean these words are reliable?
Shahwani: Reliable.
Host: The Government did nothing during those five days?
Shahwani: No.
Host: Without giving any warnings?
Shahwani: No.
Host:  General, in order to not misunderstand what you are saying, is this nonchalance or a conspiracy?  When you say the Government did nothing, do you mean the Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki himself, or you mean the Government in general? Because, what you are saying is a very big and important issue.
Shahwani: In fact, all information we had was provided to the Baghdad forces headquarters, and this is an organization that works under the command of General Command, namely Prime Minister Nouri al- Maliki.  What was the problem? Why no action was taken? There was a problem, yet we don’t know what the problem was. It was for sure   negligence or was done deliberately.
Host: Those who committed the explosions have definitely murdered thousands of Iraqis. Who are they?
Shahwani: According to our intelligence, they are individuals who have relations with Iran’s Quds force.
Host: You mean they are Iraqis?
Shahwani: yes, Iraqis.
Host: Could you tell Iraqi people who is killing them? I mean are these people in the government or out of it, are they in the army? Who are these Iraqis who might have hand in these events?
Shahwani: Thanks God, there are lots of Iran’s mercenaries in Iraq and they are everywhere! They are in the Parliament, in the Government, in the security organizations, everywhere. Iran’s mercenaries are on the streets, in shrines, everywhere.
