Former Brazilian President defends vote for UN investigator on Iran

NCRI, 31 March 2011 – Brazil’s former President ذhas defended his country’s decision to vote in favor of the appointment of a special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran.
The former Brazilian President said, “I support the appointment of the investigator. I think it was a right vote by Brazil. There has to be a rapporteur for Iran.”

International observers believe that the favorable vote by Brazil for the resolution of the UN Human Rights Council marks a shift from Brazil’s previous policies adopted by the administration of Lula da Silva. Previously, Brazil typically abstained or opposed such votes.
