Iraq’s Al-Sharqiya TV reported many areas of Baghdad have for the third consecutive day staged demonstrations in protest to poor services and government corruption. Some protesters gathered outside a local council office in the Basatein district, expressing their anger over the lack of basic services and the slow pace of projects. “Flaming popular discontent is still the main description that can be given of Baghdad’s atmosphere”, reported the Al-Sharqiya correspondent from Baghdad. “Hundreds are calling for change”. Students are facing a lot of problems in making their way to school. Demonstrators are ire about the tough conditions in their areas. “There are no services; there is nothing! I swear to God there is nothing!” said a woman. Iraq’s security forces have prevented demonstrations in many parts of Baghdad. This is while residents have requested local officials to agree with their right to hold demonstrations. “Continuous demonstrations calling for services, battling corruption and exposing corruptors gives a clear image of the popular antipathy towards current conditions in various cities around the country”, the Al-Sharqiya reporter added.
