Enormous anti-Maliki demonstrations on “No to Dictator” Friday

Millions of Iraqis took to the streets on “No to Dictator” Friday in six provinces and 12 regions in Baghdad despite heavy measures by Maliki’s forces to prevent these rallies, al-Rafedein TV reported.
Iraqis were demonstrating in the cities of Ramadi, Mosul, Kirkuk, Fallujah, Meqdadiya, Huwaija, Samarra and many others. The enormous rallies in these cities chanted, “People demand regime overthrow” and “Iran, out, out”.
Baghdad, al-Rafedein, al-Sharqiya, and Taqeer TV stations provided live coverage from the rallies in these cities, adding the gathering in Ramadi and Mosul was very significant.
Al Jazeera TV reported the number of demonstrators, and their demands, are increasing.
Reports indicate Maliki’s military forces even opened fire on demonstrators in Diyala Province. Protest squares in al-Anbar, Salahaddin, Neinawa and mosques in Baghdad and Diyala were scenes of huge gatherings.

Friday’s demonstrations with millions taking part
Checkpoints in Mosul in northern Iraq prevented people from joining the protests in Ahrar Square. The Diyala Operations Command had closed all city entrances to the city of Jalula in the northern part of the province, stopping all Iraqis and not permitting them to the mosque for their Friday prayers. One soldier belonging to a special forces brigade in Diyala opened fire on demonstrators heading towards the Friday prayer site.
Reports also indicate over 1,000 demonstrators were stopped at a checkpoint near Diyala Bridge.
