Iraqi MP Mahmoud Othman from the Kurdish coalition said 80% of all Iraqi prisoners are innocent, al-Sharqiya TV reported. This senior Kurdish lawmaker added these detainees were jailed under Article 4 of the Anti-Terrorism Law and no investigation has taken place on them.
No investigation has taken place on the reason of arrest for 80% of Iraqi detainees and if such investigations take place many of them would be freed, Othman said, without the need for a general amnesty bill to be ratified.
Political parties have placed barriers for each other blocking passage of laws in the parliament and for the political processes in general, Othman said, adding such measures are incorrect but it is something that exists.
