Saudi security forces have during the past few weeks been able to identify and neutralize an ISIS-linked terror network, the Saudi Interior Minister spokesman said in a press interview.
Saudi security officials have to this day arrested 431 individuals, most of whom are Saudi natives, the spokesman added. Other network members are from Yemen, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Algeria, Niger, Chad and some others whose identity remains unknown, he continued.
In addition to the abovementioned measures plots to bomb seven mosques in Riyadh and al-Sharqiya Province were also neutralized, the Saudi Interior Minister spokesman revealed. Four of these bombings were to be carried out during the holy month of Ramadan.
Other neutralized terror plots include a suicide attack using an explosive vest in a mosque of rapid-deployment forces in downtown Riyadh where up to 3,000 members of this force gather for prayers. This suicide attack was to take place at the same time of an attack on a mosque in Kuwait.
This terror network had plans to carry out more attacks on Fridays during the month of Ramadan and the month afterwards, all in mosques of al-Sharqiya Province. At the same time other units were to attack security patrol cars on the roads.
The Saudi Interior Minister adds another terror plot was to be carried out against foreign embassies and homes of security forces were to be identified and placed under watch. The base of security and government forces in Sharure Province was also on the target list.
This terror network intended to establish a base to train its members, come in contact with individuals wanted in Yemen and recruit new members.
