(Excerpts)

Gen. Ralph O. Baker, deputy commander of American forces in Iraq, accused Ahmad Chalabi, head of National Congress Party of Iraq, and Ali al-Lami, executive director of the Accountability and Justice Commission, of being agents of Iran, and said that those two are engaged in Iran’s activities in Iraq.
In a press conference in Baghdad, Baker said that Chalabi and al-Lami have strong relations and ties with Iran’s leaders; they tried to affect the political trend in Iraq and lay obstacles on its way by de-Baathification decisions against some candidates in elections without any significant evidence.

Gen. Ralph Baker, deputy commander of American forces in Iraq: We are informed that some paramilitary Shiite groups and a number of Special Forces are receiving various trainings from Iran and that they are logistically supported by that country. According to our information, a group called ‘Yaum al-Mo’oud’ is backed and supported by Iran; and so is a group called ‘Asaib al-Haq’. We also know that other groups such as ‘Kata’ib Hezbollah’ are backed by Iran and get their orders from that country as do their training. They are using groups such as ‘Kata’ib Hezbollah’ to affect Iraqi citizens to further the ambitions of Iran in Iraq. We are aware of the fact that Mr. al-Lami and Mr. Chalabi are working closely with Iran and you can see that they are trying to influence the political process in Iraq through eradication of people who were connected to the former regime. We can also see how Iranians are filling the market in Iraq with Iranian goods that are cheaper than goods available in Iraq and hence causing unemployment and affect the economy. In addition, the Iranians want Iraq’s oil. There is no doubt that Iranians are trying to influence Iraq and interfere in it. Iranians also continue to interfere militarily in Iraq and create insecurity and political and economic instability… the Iranian military interference in Iraq is not only against U.S. forces but has also targeted Iraqi forces and citizens. I will give you some examples. We know that Baghdad is the target of continuous missile attacks; the only country that produces this kind of missiles is Iran.
