AFP, Nicosia, 14 Dec 2011 – Syrian army defectors killed at least eight soldiers when they ambushed their convoy in the restive province of Hama on Wednesday, activists said.
‘At least eight soldiers were killed in an ambush on four military jeeps travelling in the village of Al-Asharna on the outskirts of Hama,’ said the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The attack was carried out by a splinter group of ‘army defectors in response to the death of five Syrian civilian citizens who were killed this morning when their car was hit by security forces’ near Al-Khataab.
