Multi-National Force-Iraq,12 September 2008 – Coalition forces struck another blow to the Kata’ib Hezbollah criminal network Friday after capturing two suspected criminals in New Baghdad.
After detaining nearly 20 suspected leaders and media personalities in the Kata’ib Hezbollah criminal network over the past two months, Coalition forces targeted a man believed to be involved in the group’s operations in Baghdad.
Forces moved in on the wanted man’s location in New Baghdad where they detained two suspects without incident.
Kata’ib Hezbollah is assessed to be supported by Iran’s Islamic Republican Guard Corps – Quds Force, and its members are believed to employ improvised rocket assisted mortars (IRAMs) as well as explosively formed penetrators in civilian areas. They are reportedly responsible for the mishandled IRAMs which exploded in the Shaab district of Adhamiyah in Baghdad on June 4, killing 16 Iraqi civilians and injuring 29 others.
