Civilians killed in Ghouta as regime assault continues

Orient Net, Mar 2, 2018— Pro-Assad militias, backed by Russian air force, resumed their assault against towns and cities of besieged eastern Ghouta, killing 9 civilians.

Orient News correspondent said surface-to-surface Fil missiles and heavy airstrikes killed 6 civilians in eastern Ghouta’s Douma today (Mar. 2) as targeted the city.

Syria Civil Defense rescue group, well-known as the White Helmets, published a video showing rescue operations in Douma.

The White Helmets also reported several injuries among civilians in al-Marj area as 6 airstrikes hit residential locations in Zamlka city.

Two children and a woman lost their lives from airstrikes in Bait Sawa town, Orient News correspondent reported.

Hundreds of people have been killed in 12 days of bombings by Assad regime and Russia in the besieged eastern Ghouta, a swath of towns and farms outside Damascus that is the last major opposition-controlled area near the capital, where the ongoing onslaught has been one of the fiercest of Syria’s war.

A UN Security Resolution demanding a 30-day nationwide ceasefire was adopted last Saturday (February 24) but was never implemented.
