Christopher Hill: Maliki cannot be part of Iraq’s future political arrangements

Christopher Hill, former US Ambassador to Iraq, in an interview with Al Jazeera TV English: “I would argue this goes beyond the question of Maliki. I would argue this involves some notion that all these communities have a responsibility to make sure Iraq survives this crisis, and should not be fixated on Maliki, who I gather very few people like these days, and in my view probably cannot be part of the future political arrangements.”

Former US Ambassador to Iraq: “The ship is sinking while they are all kind of focused on arranging the chairs in the dining area!”

Wadah Khanfar, President of Al Sharq Forum: “Politicians in Iraq are arguing of details of this post and that post, while the country itself, the existence of the united Iraq is actually at risk. We may witness a collapse of the state while we are busy trying to figure out who is going to take this ministry or who is going to take that post. We need revision of the politics of Iraq. The roots of the problem, the sectarian constitution, the corruption that this country has gone through during the last few years, that should be dealt with and then we can speak about any kind of arrangement that this country could take in order to reunite the people and establish a strong Iraq.”
