Canada PM calls general elections in October

Canadian voters will be electing their 42nd parliament on October 19.
Harper is currently the 22nd prime minister of Canada and the leader of the Conservative Party. Harper’s Conservatives were first elected in 2006 as a minority government and, two years later, were re-elected as a minority.
In 2011, the Conservatives won a majority government, giving them stronger influence over Canadian policies.
Justin Trudeau is the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. He won the leadership of his party in 2013.
Trudeau’s father, Pierre Trudeau, was the 15th prime minister of Canada and held the Liberal leadership for 16 years.
Under Harper, the government has stated it will keep sanctions against Iran despite the nuclear deal reached with the US and others.
Canada closed its embassy in Tehran in 2012 and expelled all Iranian diplomats from Canada.
