
The gathering of tens of thousands of Fatah supporters which was held on the third anniversary of Arafat death, the late Palestine leader, was attacked by Hamas forces. At least 7 people were killed and more than 40 wounded due to this attack and the following conflict.
According to CNN and BBC, Hamas militias opened fire at Fatah supporters and then armed confrontation erupted between two sides.
This was the biggest gathering of Fatah supporters in Gaza since the confrontations between two sides which ultimately led to withdrawal of Fatah forces from Gaza strip and the control of the region by Hamas.
Agence France Presse reported: On Monday as hundreds of thousands gathered to mark the death of Yasser Arafat, they were shot and 7 people were killed.
Another 100 people were wounded when the shots rang out after the crowds started chanting “Shiite, Shiite” — accusing the Islamist movement of being a proxy for Shiite Iran and its ally Syria, witnesses and medics said.
