The Muttahedoon Coalition issued a statement citing Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi in his meeting with a number of religious figures said there is a devious plan to inflict blows to the Sunnis, with the goal of distancing their participation in the elections, Baghdad TV reported on Saturday, April 5th. Al-Nujaifi said there are those who are attempting to place differences between Iraqis regarding different religions, adding what is taking place today is dangerous and it is necessary to stand against it and reveal its motives.
“There is an intention to change the mixture of the Sunni areas’ population, implemented by sectarian militants under the supervision of various security apparatuses. This is while security apparatuses must act to support the people with any nationality and religion,” he said.
Sadrist leader Muqtada Sadr in a press conference denounced the measures taken against Iraq’s Sunni community and the operations carried in Anbar and other areas across the country, describing them as measures aimed at changing the blend of society in these areas and preventing their participation in the upcoming general elections.
