A senior Iraqi official cited a source at the US Embassy in Baghdad saying a leaked information by the embassy to the Prime Minister’s office has neutralized an attempt to assassinate Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, Asharq Al Awsat daily reported on Tuesday.
The first attempt for this assassination came by individuals who had close relations with al-Abadi, the Iraqi official told Asharq Al Awsat.
The second attempt came at the entrance of the Green Zone from an overhead bridge and a number of Iraqi officers were arrested in this regard.
