With popular uprisings increasing across Iraq, Maliki has resorted to yet another retreat on Wednesday.
“I didn’t say demonstrators are bubbles. I said those who are trying to ride the waves of these demonstrations and intend to represent their way of thought are bubbles, and this was the meaning of my remarks,” he said in an interview with Baghdadiya TV.
“Demonstrations must be with permits. Second, does civil disobedience and closing highways mean demonstrations? Are chanting unacceptable slogans the meaning of demonstrations?” he continued.
It is worth noting that during last Friday’s widespread uprising throughout the country, demonstrators chanted for Maliki’s overthrow and Iran out of their country. Demonstrators also chanted Maliki is full of deceit and a liar.
