In an interview with al-Baghdadiya TV, Iraqiya Coalition leader Ayad Allawi described Iraq’s main dilemmas as a return to political sectarianism, foreign intervention and the upcoming elections being a failure.
“We must take into consideration the messages of the developments in Syria. Intervention by regional parties, with Iran topping the list, must be taken into consideration. All these aspects affect the dispute in Iraq,” he said while describing the situation in the country as dangerous.
“There is no request in violation of the constitution,” Allawi said referring to the demands of the demonstrators. “The demonstrations began in 2011 and were transferred from Baghdad to Basra and other southern provinces. Now, it has been brought to the western provinces. All these are for one particular reason. The political trend along with eliminating and setting people aside, and one day we will witness a demonstration in Basra and one day in al-Anbar. Now, following the US departure, the crisis has reached its climax… If a major problem is not solved in Iraq, the status will erupt. If it doesn’t now, it will two months later. If it doesn’t in two months, it will in five. The solution is to cure this crisis in the political trend,” he said.
