Al Jazeera TV reported strong clashes between Maliki forces and armed individuals inside the Spiger base west of Tikrit in the center of Salahaddin Province. Armed tribes from a few weeks ago have taken control over a number of bases in this area, staging attacks from these positions against Iraqi forces.
Al Jazeera added these clashes led to a number of helicopters being set ablaze in this airport.
