Washington is weighing the issue of expanding its aid to thousands of Syrian fighters in order to force ISIS elements out of strategic areas in Syria, American officials said. It is said this aid can be in arms or aerial support.
There may be more comprehensive decisions being made for the US Army to first train and equip Syrian fighters, and afterwards provide actual backup for the armed opposition in their fight against ISIS, these officials added.
