Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi announced in a press conference said an agreement has been reached on a bill regarding the National Council of Strategic Policies, Al-Iraqiya TV reported.
“The establishment of the National Council of Strategic Policies is one of the main and fundamental indicators of the political agreements made before…,” he said. “This bill will in the next few days be sent to the Parliament by the Presidency, and the Parliament will attempt for one month to approve the bill. Afterwards, voting can take place regarding the presidency of this council and this council to be established as soon as possible.”
al-Nujaifi stressed the political agreement indicates if the percentage of votes in the National Council of Strategic Policies reaches 100 or 80%, its decisions will be executable.
The Iraqi Parliament Speaker described the position of the president of the National Council of Strategic Policies saying, “The rank of the Presidency of this council will indicated by law. The opinion being currently mentioned is that this position should be equivalent to the Primiership.”
“The Parliament has a clear strategy to build-up Iraq,” the Speaker said. “The Parliament intends to construct a clear and distinct relationship between the legislative, executive and judicial bodies to accomplish true supervision by the Parliament. The country is suffering from lack of service and corruption. These issues have fallen on the Iraqi people’s shoulders and the Parliament is determined to fix these problems.”
The Iraqi Parliament Speaker emphasized on reviewing the actions of ministers and said the Parliament will not wait for a year to pass to review the government measures in fulfilling its obligations. He said the Parliament will host the ministers every month, and ministers lacking competence and unable to accomplish duties will be questioned.
