In a letter addressed to UN Secretary General, more than 700 Iraqi personalities including political and governmental personalities, jurists and tribal Sheikhs, described the present crisis in Iraq as the outcome of domination of the Iranian regime on Iraq and asked for the intervention for holding early elections with enough international guarantees.
The Iraqi signatories of this letter warned against misuse of “democratic mask” for brutal suppression of the opponents.
A press statement released in this regard reads:
700 prominent personalities including tens of parliamentarians, hundreds of political personalities, jurists and tribal sheikhs, in a letter to Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, mentioning the failure of the present Iraqi government in solving the crisis which has engulfed the country, described the solution in new elections under an impartial system, with adequate international guarantees under the supervision of the United Nations. They asked the UN Secretary General to implement necessary mechanisms to realize this just demand of the Iraqi nation without any delay.
The statement added: “4million homeless, 650,000 killed and millions wounded and the full devastation of social and economic infrastructure \, and lack of security and social services, is the painful price of Iran’s and its agents’ domination over our country. But the more painful is the most brutal suppression ever existed in our history which is hidden behind the mask of “democratic” and “elections legitimacy”, whereas everybody knows that their real lever for ruling is neither democracy nor the people’s vote, rather it is murder, death squads, terrorism, menace, and the imported bombs from Iran.”
Prior to this, a number of nationalist and democratic leaders of parliamentarian factions had described ’new elections’ as the solution to end the suppression and violence by the current government.
