Following the scandal of Maliki’s forces running over demonstrators in Mosul with HUMVEE military vehicles, 70 Iraqi MPs condemned this measure and described Maliki’s actions as similar to the attack of camel riders in Cairo’s Tahrir Square. The MPs went on to demand Maliki be prosecuted for this crime.
Al Jazeera cited Iraq’s Al Mada daily saying 70 Iraqi MPs, most of the from the Iraqiya Coalition, demanded a comprehensive investigation regarding this incident in Mosul’s downtown Ahrar Sqaure.
Maliki’s security forces fired bird shots to disperse 400 demonstrators who were attempting to march to Ahrar Square, which was closed down by military forces, Al Jazeera added. Afterwards, military vehicles ran over three demonstrators.
