
The head of the U.N. committee monitoring sanctions against Iran said so far 45 percent of the 192 U.N. member states have filed mandatory reports on how they are complying with the measures.
According to AP: The U.N. Security Council has imposed three rounds of sanctions on Iran for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment, most recently in early March.
Belgium’s U.N. Ambassador Johan Verbeke told the council on Monday that the committee has received 88 reports on compliance with the initial sanctions imposed on Dec. 23, 2006.
He says it received just 72 on compliance with a second round of sanctions imposed on March 24, 2007.
U.S. deputy ambassador Alejandro Wolff urges all countries to submit reports as soon as possible.
