Al-Sharqiya TV reported Iraqi Parliament Human Rights Commission Chairman Salim al-Jabouri declaring the Justice Ministry has in possession an official letter proving 34 Iraqi inmates have lost their lives in Interior Ministry prison just in the past 4 months.
In a speech in an advisory session of the Iraqi Parliament, al-Jabouri said medical reports indicate these deaths include prisoners under the age of 40 who had no chronic illnesses.
“This is an official letter with a specific signature and date. There is another letter issued by the High Judicial Council indicating 3,200 inmates were released in one month. This is good, but the question is how were these people arrested, while down the road they were proven innocent? How many people have been arrested and then proven innocent? These were people who had connections and investigations were conducted very soon. But there are others who haven’t had any investigations conducted. Baghdad Province Deputy Governor was arrested and imprisoned for 11 months. After 11 months they said there is no evidence to prove his accusations. 11 months! And this is a political figure who is very well known for everyone.”
