
Friday’s uprising in 21 cities across Iraq witnessed millions of protesters pouring into the streets demanding Maliki’s overthrow and Iran to be evicted from their country.
Baghdad TV reported millions of people took part in the prayers on “Friday of Unity”, adding in Ramadi alone over two million people participated in the Friday prayers.
Reuters wired a report saying protesters holding “caricatures of Maliki, one of them showing him with a bag full of dollars and fleeing on an Iranian plane.”

In Baghdad the districts of Taji, Abu Qarib and Azamiya districts; the cities of Ramadi, Fallujah and Trivil in Al Anbar Province; the cities of Samara, Tikrit, Biji, Es-haqi, Sharqa and Yasreb in Salahaddin Province; the cities of Mosul and Qiyara in Neinawa Province; the cities of Baladrud, Baquba, Jalula and Kanan in Diyala Province; the cities of Kirkuk and Howaija in Tamim Province witnessed enormous rallies and uprisings against Maliki’s government. The tribes of Al Anbar Province, where this uprising began, emphasized on their perseverance until Maliki’s overthrow.
Al Jazeera, Mobasehr, Al Rafedein, Taqeer, Baghdad and Al Sharqiya provided live coverage of these demonstrations.
Despite repressive security measures, Maliki’s forces closing the cities’ main entrances and confiscating people’s mobile phones, the participation of all walks of life in these demonstrations was very significant.
News media outlets said millions of people took part in the series of demonstrations staged throughout Iraq on Friday.
Demonstrators in various cities, including Baghdad, demanded Maliki’s overthrow and Baghdad to be freed of Iran’s occupation.
