Former Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi described the Iraqi people’s protests against Nouri Maliki as the “beginning of popular uprising and the Iraqi Spring”.
2013 is the year of change in Iraq, he added.
In an interview with a Turkish news agency, Tareq al-Hashemi once again called on all Iraqis to take action and rise in the uprisings in Fallujah, Ramadi, Samara and other cities and say to Maliki’s regime enough is enough.
“Through cruelty, corruption and mismanagement in the government, Nouri al-Maliki has brought about conditions adequate for change,” he added.
Al-Hashemi also expects the Iraq uprising to spread throughout the country’s southern provinces, citing the fact that these regions are in the same conditions of poverty, lack of public services and insecurity that is experienced in Iraq’s central and northern provinces.
