Unknown missiles target regime’s airbases in Damascus, Homs

Orient Net. April 17, 2018 – Unknown missiles targeted regime’s air base of Shayrat in Homs province late on Monday and another base northeast of the capital, Damascus, according to the regime-run TV and pro-Iranian media.
Assad media confirmed that missiles targeted the Shayrat airbase in eastern Homs countryside, without mentioning any details about the resulting damage or casualties.
Al-Manar TV, run by Hezbollah militia, reported from a ‘military source’ that 6 missiles targeted the airbase in Homs.
Pro-Iranian Hezbollah’s media service reported that three missiles, that were fired at the Dmeir military airport, northeast of Damascus, were intercepted by regime air defenses, according to Reuters.
A Pentagon spokesman told Reuters there was no US military activity in that area at this time; as Reuters reported an Israeli military spokesman saying, “We don’t comment on such reports.”
Opposition sources say Dmeir airport is a major air base used in a large-scale military campaign waged by the Assad regime with Russian firepower against opposition-held areas on the outskirts of Damascus.
Shayrat air base was targeted last year in a US cruise missile attack in response to a chemical attack that killed at least 70 people, including children, on the opposition-held town of Khan Sheikhoun.
