Roudabeh Akbari, wife of political prisoner Jafar Kazemi who is awaiting execution, stressed the court hearing for her husband was sham. “They looked into 4 cases in just half an hour,” she said. “The judge gave no permission for my husband to speak and said you should have been executed back in the 1980s, it was mistaken and I will not let you get out of my hands this time.”
Mrs. Roudabe Akbari in a letter to the UN Secretary General mentioned the inhumane tortures inflicted on her husband. She wrote, “The interrogator told my husband, ‘for us to save the system, we need to sacrifice a few and you were one of those picked.’ They once again demand from my husband to conduct an interview regarding the Ashura uprisings, which he refused because my husband was arrested 3 months before Ashura! The interrogator threatens if he does not agree to participate in the interview; we will torture your wife and child in front of your eyes saying ‘We will cut your wife into pieces in front of you.’ He once again resisted their threats and refused to take part in any interview. Therefore, they say my husband’s execution is indispensable and definite.”
The wife of political prisoner Jafar Kazemi described the tortures conducted on her husband saying, “After being arrested, we had no news about his whereabouts for 3 weeks. In our first visit afterwards I saw that he had been under severe torture.”
Roudabeh Akbari quoted Jafar Kazemi from their last meetings saying, “They say nothing to the prisoner, and one night before carrying out the sentencing they transfer the prisoner to solitary confinement and later carry out the sentencing without anyone being informed.”
