
The organizations Serving Our World, Women’s Voice International and Americans Against Terrorism issued statements warning about the risk of human rights violations in the Iraqi Government’s treatment of Ashraf residents, and called on the international community, United Nations and the US Government to ensure the application of international conventions and prevent any violation of human rights.
In their calls, these organizations emphasized that the UNHCR has officially declared Ashraf residents as “asylum seekers” and is evaluating many of their refugee claims. During this process, the safety and security of the residents is an issue of serious concern. Serving Our World urged an end to violence against Ashraf residents. It stated that we emphasize the residents must be able to safely and securely carry out their interviews with the UNHCR.
Serving Our World, Women’s Voice International and Americans Against Terrorism called on the international community, including the US, UN and its refugee agency, to exercise their influence to prevent human rights violations at Ashraf.
