Fifty Palestinian associations, civil and human rights organizations issued a call to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi for urgent action on Ashraf.
From 25 years ago, Ashraf has been home to 3400 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran based on official laws.
The Iraqi government has imposed a cruel and long-lasting siege and a medical blockade along with continuous breaches of the most fundamental violations of Ashraf residents’ rights.
The Iraqi government has also based on orders from the Iranian regime attacked Ashraf residents in 2009 and April 2011, leading to the death of 47 residents including 8 Muslim women. These attacks also resulted in over 1,000 injured.
We as noble Arabs and Palestinians condemn these criminal acts and consider them as against our values and humane principles. We call on you for the following:
1- Cancel the cruel 35-month long siege on Camp Ashraf.
2- Arab League support for the European Parliament plan of a peaceful resolve for the Ashraf crisis.
3- Urgent action by the United Nations to carry out its obligations towards Ashraf residents and station a permanent UN monitoring team in Ashraf.
