The Arab Women Lawyers Committee in Defense of 1000 Ashraf Women issued a statement asking until when the atrocious conditions in Liberty must continue.
Excerpts of this statement are as follows:
“Until when must rights and laws be violated under political pretexts? Until when must this atrocious situation in Liberty continue, while we are in the middle of the Arab Spring and without a doubt it will reach Iraq and Iran?
“By reviewing all international laws regarding the Geneva Conventions and conventions related to the UNHCR, we see that the first entity violating these rights and agreements is UNAMI itself that has not provided the legal assurances to protect the lives of refugees living in Ashraf and Liberty.
“Following the revelation of UNAMI appeasement and deals in practice with this crime, we will never address UNAMI and we will never issue a call to this organization again. In fact, we will call on the Arab League, the European Union, the US State Department and the UN and UNHCR to stop their appeasement and deals in this illegal and immoral crime and not continue this sham show in Liberty with individuals who unfortunately trusted them.”
